BEWARE of a hoax call from number 0800555111 regarding your deportation from New Zealand, my personal experience – Gaurav Mendse

Incident date and time: 10/03/2015 7:52am

I got a call today morning from 0800555111 (for those who don’t know, this a Crimestopper NZ toll-free number to report crimes anonymously). The guy on the line said that he is calling from “immigration” and he received information from High Commission of India in India! (there is no such thing cause Indian high commissions are abroad) regarding my immediate deportation.

He asked me to start my laptop and google for number he was calling from – 0800555111. I found that this is Crimestopper NZ toll-free number. He asked me to shutdown my laptop and stop any mobile internet. He said this is highly confidential matter and I should lock my room door.

He said that I have pending criminal cases against me in India which the High Commission of India in India (again!) informed him. I said that I don’t have even a parking ticket on my name in India and informed him that I just got a Police Clearance Certificate as well from the High Commission of India, Wellington. He said that I am trying to play smart; I replied I am just presenting the facts and the high commission would not have issued PCC if there would have been any cases against me in India.

He then said that I have not filled the ‘Alien Registration Form’ that is why the high commission of India issued a deportation notice. I told him that it may be required for foreign nationals staying in India and not the legal citizens of India. Then he inquired about my passport details – he knew the address on my passport! He was utterly vague with my deportation reasons (loans in India, credit card bills, etc.). I told him that my application was submitted by a legal/licensed NZ Immigration adviser to Immigration New Zealand and this form was not mentioned anywhere, but he kept on insisting that it is required.

Then he said he will do a background check to see if I have any criminal cases here in NZ. He asked when I came, where I work, how much I earn, how many account numbers I have, their balances! Whether I do drugs or money laundering…LOL!

He said I am clear here in NZ and will do a background check with High Commission of India in India, LOL I did not try correct him smile emoticon He said he know that it is night in India but there are 1-2 officers working 24/7 for his queries. He asked me to be on the line and to not hung-up as it will trigger a message to NZ police to arrest me!!

He got back to me after I was on-hold for 15 minutes and said that the main officer will be available morning India time and the other two were asking him to continue with the deportation. When I inquired what the “other two” said about the deportation reason, he said it was not disclosed by them for “security reasons”! LOL
He inquired whether I use any credit cards in India or NZ, which I declined.

Then he gave me three options, which he stated as “provisions” –
Provision 16 – Face arrest and jail for 3-15 days.
Provision 18 – Face arrest, jail overnight and deportation tomorrow. Then, he said, I may fight my own “case” with Govt. of India.
Provision 20 – (this is interesting) He said he can help me to avoid being arrested and deported. He will send someone to get the following forms filled and collected, along with PAYMENT by cash or cheque –
1. Alien Registration Form (ARF)
2. Deportation Cancellation Form
3. Letters of Apology to Govt. of India for not submitting the ARF!
4. GF230 form with $27 fee as late charges for submitting ARF form
5. Financial security of $983, paid to the high commission. He said it would be refundable but Govt. of India may deduct amount if I have any outstanding loan!

I finally told him that I will get in touch with High Commission of India (Wellington) and the NZ police, and will go ahead with “provision 18”. He said that the police are on their way and I would not be allowed to meet anyone, and that I should not leave my home for it would be 15 days in jail. He gave me my deportation number DCGM00767 and hung-up.

I stayed at home for another 30 minutes. I then went to the High Commission of India (Wellington) to inquire and was not surprised to know that they have not issued any such notice. In fact they were very surprised and encouraged me to report this incident to the police. I reported this incident to the NZ police with the details, today – reporting date 10/03/2015, time 12:03pm.

• Visit the nearest Permanent Aadhaar Enrolment Center. To know permanent centers in your city, visit appointments.uidai.gov.in/easearch.aspx
• Provide the relevant needed details like your name, date of birth and address along with your finger print to know your Enrolment ID.
• Using the Enrolment ID, they will provide you your e-Aadhaar.

Here’s how you can do that online:

• Visit resident.uidai.net.in
• Click on “Find UID/EID” button (direct link)

• Select one of the options from “You want to receive your lost” : Aadhaar No (UID) or Enrolment No (EID)
• Enter your Full Name, registered Email or Mobile number and the captcha and click on Get OTP. The email ID or mobile number should be the same as provided at the time of enrolment.

• You should receive the code on your mail or on your mobile number as SMS.

• Enter received OTP in the boxand click on “Verify OTP” button.

• If entries are correct, you should immediately receive the requested Aadhaar number or Enrolment ID on your email or phone number.

• Now you can even download and print Aadhaar card online.

• Surrender your equipment to the old distributor. This is required only for the inter-company transfer. For intra-company transfer i.e. within the same company, cylinder and equipment need not be surrendered.
• Visit your new distributor and get tour new cylinder and equipment.

The new feature would enable subscribers to see their updated accounts online and keep a copy of it by downloading it.

Improtant thing to note is that the feature would be available only to live account holders and not to inoperative account holders. It is known that EPFO makes all those accounts inoperative where contribution is not made for 36 months in a row.

This is a great option if you are able to physically connect your laptop to a wired or a 3G network (using a data card) and also want to be able to get online with your other smart devices. This is completely free and open source unlike Connectify which offers very limited features in its free version (like data cards are not supported etc)

The program is compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 8, and once you have it configured, it can be used to get any wireless device online – other laptops, phones and tablets or even desktop machines fitted with a wireless adapter.

Setting it up is easy

Download a free copy of Virtual Router Plus. Visit the software page, scroll down and click the Download Latest Release link or click here to do a direct download.

Once you have downloaded the zip file, don’t worry about the installation as it does not need any. You just need to extract it.

After unzipping, you would see a file “VirtualRouterPlus.exe” which is the file to be run. Leave other files untouched. Just ensure that you are connected to the network connection that you would like to share before launching the application.

You might see a permission screen based upon your, User Account Control (UAC) settings.

Creating a Network

• After launching the app, just enter something in the SSID field that will basically be the network name that would appear on other devices in the Available WiFi networks list.
• Also secure your connection by providing a password in the password field.
• Select the network connection from the “Shared Connection” dropdown that you wish to share and click Start Virtual Router Plus

The app shares connection using WPA2 encryption to help keep things secure. Virtual Router Plus can be used to wireless share any other connection you might have available.

That’s pretty much all that you need to do. Your hotspot is up and running. Other devices will start seeing a new network in their WiFi list and they can connect it to too using the same password.

If you wish to discontinue sharing network, just select Stop Virtual Router Plus and that’s it.

Only limitation that I felt was that there is no way to know if somebody has connected to the hotspot or not.

But sometimes we start downloading some large files within Google chrome. Although Google chrome has the option of pausing and resuming the downloads but it cannot resume the broken downloads. And if the download is 90% complete and network failure occurs for some reason then chrome alerts to relaunch the download from beginning although partial downloaded file with an extension .crdownload indeed exists in the download folder.

So if you are the same point with huge .crdownload file but finding no way to resume the download then continue reading.

Note: The below method can be used to resume any broken download of any size files by any client / browser.

Wget is the tool that can resume any downloaded file from anywhere at any time without any hassles. It is not only free to download but it is of very small size and easy to use (just one command).

Follow following simple steps:

• Download Wget.
• Copy this Wget file (.exe) in the same folder where your broken .crdownload file resides.
• Change the name of the broken file to original name i.e. remove the suffix (.crdownload) so that your file name is changed from yourfilename.exe.crdownload to yourfilename.exe
• Run to command prompt (type and run “cmd” on Start –> Run)
• Change folder to where your file and wget exist using cd command e.g. “cd c:\user\temp\downloads”
• You can also simple navigate windows explorer to the folder (where your wget and broken files exist) then hold <SHIFT> and mouse RIGHT CLICK and select “Open command window here”
• Now after you have the command window opened from the folder you wish, type in wget -c <url>
  • url: it is the downloading link which you should copy from the chrome and paste it in place of url above. Click enter after pasting the link.
• Downloading should resume now. You should see the % of file already downloaded and remaining too.
• Close the cmd window after your file is downloaded completely.
• You are good to use the file now.

• Navigate to portal.uidai.gov.in/updatePortal/login.action
• Enter your Aadhaar number
• You will sent an OTP (one time password) on your registered mobile.
• Key in the OTP and captcha text and click Login.

• Chose the changes you wish to do like name, gender, date of birth, address or mobile.
• Click Submit.

• Update the changes on form.
• Verify that the translation to your local language is correct as you wish to see in your Aadhaar card.
• Click Submit update request.

• You will be presented with a review update page where you can review the changes and say proceed.

• Navigate to appointments.uidai.gov.in
• Fill up the form with information like name, email, mobile number, persons to accompany you.
• Select the state, city and the center you want to book an appointment for.
• Choose a date on which you plan to visit the center. Date cannot be greater than 30 days from the day.
• Select the time slot. You will see the availability when you select the time slot.
• Enter verification code and click fix appointment.

• You will see a page with appointment details.

• Take a print out and visit the center at the specified time.
• Visit appointments.uidai.gov.in/frmReScheduleEnrolment.aspx for canceling or rescheduling the appointment. Enter your Token id and mobile number to proceed. Beware before clicking cancel, as it would cancel the appointment straight away.

Note:

Telecom consumers can now register complaints about wrongful activation of value added services (VAS) like mobile internet, caller tunes, Bhakti songs etc on a new common number, 155223, which is valid for all operators.

The good thing about the move is that the telecom operators will have to refund the amount charged for such activation of services if consumers inform about it within 24 hours on this common number.

Subscribers who have been using any value added services beyond 24 hours can also request for deactivation of service on this number. Telecom operator will have to deactivate service within four hours of getting phone call but the customer will not be eligible to claim refund in such cases.

The move has been put into effect after the TRAI refused leniency in such cases. Telecom operators jointly introduced the service on February 2.

As per the rule, operators will have to take consent of subscribers before activating any VAS and deactivate it without charging for it if no consent is received from them.

Public companies do declare their quarterly results which let the world know if the company is growing or weakening. But nobody is aware what the total employee strength of a private ltd company is and how it is performing.

This information about private limited companies has also come into public domain now and you can get various information about them. For e.g. Varying employee strength in the current financial year on monthly basis and an easy inference can be drawn whether the company is on the growth path or not.

You can also view how much total PF is being deposited by the company to EPFO in a specific month thus self-calculating the average salary of employees in that company. List of employees is also available to view all present employees with oldest employee first.

Here’s how you can view all this significant info:

• Visit search.epfoservices.in/estt_search/est_search.php
• You can search for your company using the PF code or the company name as in the image below.

• From the listed company(ies), click on the payment icon against your organization.

• You will be presented a list which will display a lot of info about the company in the current Financial year (or last 9-10 months)
  • You can view total amount deposited to EPFO as PF.
  • You can also view total number of employees in a particular month.
  • Clicking on the No. of Employee column, you can also view the list of all employees working in the company in that particular month.
  • Employees are listed in ascending order of their PF number i.e. oldest employee first.
  • From Total PF amount and Total employees, you can also calculate the average monthly salary of employees.

If we analyse this info for Infosys BPO, here’s the evaluation:

• Infosys BPO grew from 16991 employees in March 2012 to 19421 employees in Dec 2012 i.e. 2430 employees rise in 9 months or 270 effective new joinees every month.
• Rs 4 crore, 78 lacs, 27 thousand, 531 deposited as PF for 19421 employees
  • i.e. an average of  Rs 2,462 per employee or Rs 1,231 (50%) as Employee contribution.
  • Since PF is 12% of the basic salary, we can easily calculate average basic salary of a BPO employee in Infosys to Rs 10,261.
  • Considering basic to be 40% of the total monthly salary, we can say Rs 25,652 to be the average monthly salary of an employee in Infosys BPO in Dec 2012
  • Using the same calculation, average monthly salary of an employee in Infosys BPO in Mar 2012 was Rs 23,135 i.e. a hike of Rs 2,500 per month since Mar 2012 or around 10% hike.
• Mr. Sheshadri B C is the oldest employee in Infosys BPO

Similar average monthly salary calculation for other companies comes out to be:
